The new identity for the Charles and Ray Eames Foundation is built on a modular system derived directly from the foundation’s name—Charles, &, Ray, Eames, and Foundation—each element functioning as a flexible editorial tool to organize content and meaning across communications. This semantic framework allows the identity to distinguish between individual legacies, collaborative work, the broader studio ethos, and the institution itself, forming a structured yet adaptable system.
Visually, this approach is complemented by a language inspired by the vastness of the Eames archive, where asterisk-like “footnotes” create a dynamic, expandable design vocabulary. The result is an identity that prioritizes structure and clarity while encouraging play, enabling the foundation to communicate its mission without relying solely on the familiar visual output of the Eameses.
More to come.
